Meshtastic Tactical Node
Context
Meshtastic is an open-source mesh networking platform. The hardware ecosystem is functional but utilitarian—most devices look like development boards with screens and buttons. For the tactical/ATAK crowd who want off-grid comms that blend with their gear, the aesthetic mismatch is real.
What we did
Industrial Design
- Rectangular form with rounded edges—rugged without being bulky
- Three prominent stubby antennas (the “MANET radio” silhouette)
- Recessed hexagonal honeycomb inlay pattern for visual texture
- No screen, no buttons, no speaker—minimalist tactical aesthetic
- Ventilation slits above the inlay for passive cooling
Colorway Series
Tactical Series (matte finish):
- FDE (Flat Dark Earth) with black hex inlay
- OD Green with tan/beige hex inlay
- Tactical Black with red hex inlay
Toy/Novelty Series (glossy finish):
- Hot Pink with white hex inlay
- Vibrant Purple with yellow/neon hex inlay
- Bright Teal with pink/coral hex inlay
Product Visualization
- Developed repeatable prompt template for consistent renders
- Generated hero shots for all tactical colorways
- Created environmental context shots for marketing use

Harsh desert sun, dust particles, cracked earth—survivalist atmosphere
Neon reflections on wet pavement, cyberpunk city vibes
What’s next
- Finalize hex inlay dimensions and material (painted vs. physical insert)
- Define antenna connector type and interchangeability
- Create CAD files for 3D printing prototypes
Outcomes
- Defined three tactical colorways (FDE, OD Green, Black/Red)
- Created consistent product visualization pipeline
- Established design language for future Brownikeet hardware
